Bible Verse: Then God spoke all these words: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery. Do not have other gods besides me. Exodus 20:1-3 CSB
Scripture Reading: Exodus 20:1-17
“I am the Lord your God” appears in the Bible over 150 times, so clearly, God is trying to tell us something.
If you were able to join us for our virtual conference, we looked at the idea of God being Lord of our lives. Starting at Genesis, we see God as creator and the authority, as he calls his creation to live a certain way in obedience to him. He wants to be above all things in our life. He wants to be Lord. When we are introduced to the Ten Commandments, we are quickly reminded in the first commandment not to make anything else “Lord” in our life.
Unfortunately, we live in a culture where it doesn’t seem like God is Lord anymore. To some of us, he’s just our God, but we aren’t living the way he wants. And there are parts of our lives where we don’t acknowledge him as Lord. Yes, we say we believe, but James says even the demons believe.
I truly believe that our society has shifted away from God being Lord. However, when the Bible says over 150 times that he is the Lord our God, we need to understand God hasn’t changed, even though our culture has.
So what does this look like practically in 2021 as we live in a post-Christian culture? Join us this week as we will explore how to reconcile our faith, trust and submit to Jesus in our everyday life. Share with your friends and invite them to subscribe to our daily devotionals.
